Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act Cheat Sheet

The Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (CAIA) is set to go into effect on June 30, 2026. This legislation, which passed as Senate Bill 24-205 (SB 24-205), requires the developers and deployers, including employers, of artificial intelligence (AI) systems to comply with a number of requirements meant to protect consumers and workers in the state of Colorado. These requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Impact assessments conducted on an annual basis or within 90 days of any substantial and intentional modification of an AI system
  • Notifications regarding the use and ability to opt out of the use of AI systems
  • Notifications regarding the purpose of any AI systems being used
  • Notifications of adverse decisions made by AI systems to affected applicants and workers
  • Public disclosures regarding the use of AI systems, how risks of AI systems are managed, and information regarding the data being used by any AI systems
